Mr. Richard L. Stewart, age 85 of Robinson, IL passed away Thursday July 11, 2019 at 6:35 PM at Arbor Rose Memory Care, Robinson, IL following several months of failing health.

Born November 17, 1933 in Ft. Sheridan, IL he was the son of Ralph and Bessie (Jean) Stewart.  On July 13, 1957 he married Lorita (Powden) and she preceded him in death March 29, 2016.

Richard retired from the U.S. Army with twenty-two years of service, then worked as a custodian at Palestine High School, Palestine, IL for twelve years.  He was a member of the Prior Grove Baptist Church, Robinson, IL.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Lee “Rick” Stewart, Robinson, IL, James “Jim” and Lynne Stewart, Nanticoke, PA, Jon and Darci Stewart, Webster Groves, MO; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and James Cowan, Lake Forest, CA; six grandchildren, Leslie and Mark Hunsinger, Wilkesboro, PA, Natalie and Greg Pugh, Lancaster, PA, Thomas Cowan, Lake Forest, CA, AnnaRose Cowan, Lake Forest, CA, Mallory Stewart, Webster Groves, MO, A.J. Stewart, Webster Groves, MO; two great grandchildren, Madelyn Pugh and Alexander Hunsinger; a sister-in-law, Lois Powden, Robinson, IL and several nieces and nephews locally, including Margie Waggoner, Shirley Knight, Becky Drake, Jennie Pfau, Bobby Knight, Bill Knight and Steve Knight.

Preceding Richard in death were his parents; his wife, Lorita Powden, step-father, John Dooley and several brothers and sisters.

There will be cremation with a Memorial Service held on Wednesday July 17, 2019 at 5:00 PM at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson, IL with Pastor Jeff Monroney officiating.  Visitation will be Wednesday July 17, 2019 from 4:00 PM until time of service at 5:00 PM at the funeral home.  Interment of the cremated remains will be in the New Hebron Cemetery, New Hebron, IL.

Full military rites will be accorded by the combined units of E.M. Coulter Post #69, American Legion, VFW Post #4549 and AMVETS Post #33 at the Memorial Service.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.
