Mr. Bruce D. Staley, age 91 of Martinsville, IL died Monday December 3, 2018 at 6:00 AM in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born November 8, 1927 in Grandville Township, Jasper County, IL he was the son of Ray and Goldie (Baxter) Staley.  On October 26, 1946 he married Doris Lea (VanArsdalen) Staley and she preceded him in death on November 5, 2017, having been married for 71 years.
Bruce served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1945 thru most of 1946. Early in his working life, he worked for Bendix Aircraft Parts manufacturing in Mishawaka, IN, then Case Pottery in Robinson, IL for 11 years before returning to his lifelong love, farming. Bruce was a farmer and worked on the farm well into his eighties before semi-retiring.  He was a member of E.M. Coulter Post #69, American Legion, Robinson, IL; was Township Supervisor of Prairie Township for 30 years and a trustee for eight years, serving his constituents for a total of 38 years.  He was also a member of the Crawford County Board for six years and a member of the Crawford County Farm Bureau.  As a hobby most of his life, he enjoyed working in the wood shop, making intricate creations and many beautiful pieces.  On November 18, 1950 he joined the Pleasant Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church and became an elder on November 17, 1968 and was a member for 68 years.

Survivors include five sons and daughters-in-law, James and Marcia Staley, Marshall, IL, John and Karen Staley, West Union, IL, Don and Nora Staley, Annapolis, IL, David and Becky Staley, Martinsville, IL and Steven and Victoria Staley, Martinsville, IL; ten grandchildren, Matt Staley, Bloomington, IN, Melissa Johnson, Martinsville, IL, Jonathon and Tina Staley, Annapolis, IL, Maria Staley, Lawrenceville, IL, Greg and Erica Staley, Robinson, IL, Kevin and Beckie Staley, Annapolis, IL, Amanda and Zach Hosselton, Casey, IL, Derek Staley, Martinsville, IL, Lisa Hege, Robinson, IL, Ryan and Jennifer Staley, Casey, IL; seventeen great-grandchildren, Kali Richey, Grayson Johnson, Timothee Staley, Marleigh Staley, MaKayla Staley, John Austen Staley, Cierra Staley, Madison Staley, Dyllon Staley, Dawson Staley, Kennady Fuller, Whitney Fuller, Jordyn Hege, Blake Green, Ella Staley, Ruby Staley and Carter Staley and one great-great grandchild Evan Staley.  Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Janet Staley of Martinsville, IL, Marcia VanArsdalen of Annapolis, IL and Barbara and Robert Pleasant of Robinson, IL.  Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, a sister, Brenda D. Stephens on January 22, 2003 and a brother, Grendal Staley on April 19, 2000.

The Funeral Service will be Thursday December 6, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson, IL with Bro. Billie Ray Ulrey officiating.  Visitation will be Wednesday December 5, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson, IL.  Burial will be in the Olive Branch Cemetery, rural Martinsville, IL.  Military graveside rites will be performed by the combined units of E. M. Coulter Post # 69 American Legion, VFW post 4549 and AMVETS post #33.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriner’s Hospital for Children with envelopes available at the funeral home.

We are sorry for your loss.
Even though the loss is hard and your hearts are heavy, we can find joy in knowing that Bruce has joined Doris in Heaven. A place God prepared for his children. A place where there is no more sorrow, no sickness and no more pain. May God bless you during this time.
