Marilyn was born in Oblong, IL on September, 21 1935. She was the daughter of Samuel Otho Allen and Lucille Kitty (Leggitt) Allen. On October 22, 1955 she married Garold Sholders who survives.

Marilyn began her working career at Hal Keith Leggitt’s Furniture Store in Oblong, IL. She later worked at the First National Bank of Oblong for several years before transitioning into her favorite job of being a mother, homemaker, and farm wife.

She attended Brush Creek School; a one-room school house located a mile from where she grew up. Marilyn graduated from Oblong Township High School in 1953. She was an avid supporter of the agricultural events in the community, always in attendance at the Crawford County Fair and Antique Tractor Show.  Marilyn had also been a member of the First Christian Church of Oblong, IL since 1950.

She loved gardening, working alongside Garold on the family farm, cooking and baking. She also loved decorating both birthday and wedding cakes for her family members. Marilyn was well known for a few things, such as her famous peanut butter sheet cake, sweet potato casserole, and homemade noodles.  Marilyn and Garold always attended the various events their kids and grandkids participated in, including sports, cattle shows, and many other activities the family was involved in. Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family and friends.
