Life Legacy

Mr. Larry G. Lorance, age 76 of Oblong, Illinois, died Sunday October 9, 2011 at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 15, 1935 in Martin Township, Crawford County, Illinois the son of Chloris M. "Buster" and Oliaf L. "Pod" (Hill) Lorance. On February 21, 1953 married Norma Ilene Bailey and she survives. Mr. Lorance was employed by Marathon Oil Company, Robinson, Illinois, working in various positions for 36 years retiring in 1994 as a Planner. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, Oblong, Illinois; former Oblong Village Board Member; Oblong School Board Member for several years; former Oblong Mayor; served on many committees at church. Larry loved going to the river and net fishing; hunting; gardening and camping. He did a lot of volunteering for both church and community projects.

Survivors include his wife Norma Lorance, Oblong, Illinois; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Billy Spivey, Dothan, Alabama; Lori and Tim Hetzler, Robinson, Illinois; Peggy and Brian Weigele, Newburgh, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Christine Spivey, Vidalia, Georgia, Bailey Spivey, Dothan, Alabama, Brad and Sara Heilwagen, LaVergne, Tennessee, J.D. Hetzler, Springfield, Missouri, Ross Hetzler, Robinson, Illinois, Jennifer Weigele, Evansville, Indiana, Nick Pressley, Indianapolis, Indiana; Adam and Alison Heilwagen, LaVergne, Tennessee, Ashlyn DeVillez, Evansville, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; a grandson, Jerad Spivey and one brother-in-law, Sanford Bailey.

A Celebration of Larry's life will be at 11:00 am Saturday October 15, 2011 at the Central United Methodist Church, Oblong, Illinois with Rev. Tom Brewer officiating. Visitation will be Friday October 14, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Central United Methodist Church, Oblong, Illinois. Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois. Memorial donations may be made to the Central United Methodist Church with envelopes available at the church or mailed to the funeral home.
