CHARLES “DEAN” STEPHENS, AGE 82

Mr. Charles “Dean” Stephens, age 82 of Robinson, IL and formerly of the Annapolis, IL area died Friday August 9, 2019 at 1:45 AM at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Robinson, IL following several years of Parkinson’s Dementia.

Born December 23, 1936 in Annapolis, IL the son of Charles Dallis and Faye (Cooley) Stephens.  On September 1, 1962 he married Carolyn (Burroughs) and she preceded him in death July 9, 2018.

Following High School graduation in 1954, Dean began farming and was inducted into the Army National Guard and served until 1965, during and after his military obligation Dean continued to farm and eventually went on to work for Marathon Oil Company in the Maintenance and Machine Shop.

Dean was a member of the Hutsonville Christian Church, Hutsonville, IL and was retired from Marathon Oil Company Maintenance and Machine Shop. He loved to garden, always had a large garden, and shared the bounty with his family and friends.  Dean was deeply interested in his grandkids sporting events and along with Carolyn, attended almost every event in which his grandkids were involved.  He and Carolyn traveled extensively visiting 48 of the 50 United States. Together Dean and Carolyn owned and ran the “Slick Rail Farm Craft Shop” and could be found in attendance at most local arts and crafts festivals.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Julie Stephens, West Salem, IL; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Andrew Harrison, Robinson, IL; four grandchildren, Allison and Laney Stephens, West Salem, IL, Kaitlyn VanArsdalen, Robinson, IL, Tracy Harrison, Robinson, IL; a sister and brother-in-law, Verlea and Ferrel Fox, Belleview, WA and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Carolyn Stephens, 2018; an infant son, Douglas Stephens, 1966 and sisters, Virginia Watts and Vera Stephens.

Funeral services will be Tuesday August 13, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Pulliam Funeral Home, Hutsonville, IL with Pastor Reid Louderman and Pastor Bill Wilkinson officiating.  Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM at Pulliam Funeral Home, Hutsonville, IL.  Burial will be in the Hutsonville Cemetery, Hutsonville, IL.

Memorial donations may be made to HSHS Home Care and Hospice c/o St. Anthony Hospital, Effingham, IL or Hutsonville First Christian Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
