Jeanne (Wilson) Mayfield passed away quietly on October 12th at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital.  Jeanne was the 7th of 8 children.  A life long student Jeanne had 180 credit hours of college behind her, ranging from Aviation (Pilot’s Ground School), Beauty Culture, Dermatology, Electrolysis, Grapho-analysis, Genealogy, Geology … to Upholstery.  If she had an interest in it, she took the course!  She married the love of her life, Carrel B Mayfield on Nov 2nd, 1948 in Robinson IL.  She had several jobs before starting her own Beauty Shop.  An exceptional entrepreneur, she settled on Electrolysis (the permanent removal of unwanted hair), opening her practice in Olney in 1961.  In 1966 she closed her business and followed her husband to LaSalle-Peru, IL.  She opened her practice there, eventually hiring two other electrologists.  In addition to Electrolysis, she was active in BPW, Business and Professional Women, the owner of a Flower shop and owner of a Dress shop. She retired 1986 and moved back to Olney, IL.  She then launched herself into volunteer work in several organizations but most notably Richland Memorial Hospital’s Auxiliary where she rose to become the President for many years.

Jeanne was active in Many organizations.  Eastern Star, DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), Business and Professional Women, HEA, Methodist Women and FMCA (Family Motor Coaching Association) where she served in both State, Regional and National offices.  Having a keen interest in Genealogy she discovered that not only did she and her husband have several ancestors who fought in the American Revolution but also that she was a descendant of two people who came to America on the Mayflower in 1620.

Jeanne was preceded in Death by her husband Carrel B Mayfield, October 2, 2018, three Brothers, three sisters and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her son, Terrence Mayfield and Daughter in Law Trudy Mayfield of rural Olney.  She has two Grandsons, Tyrell Mayfield and Taggert Mayfield, four Great Grandchildren, Regan, Dylan, Dean and Van Mayfield.  She is also survived by her younger Brother Robert Wilson and his wife Linda of Inverness, FL.

A Celebration of life service for both Carrel B and Jeanne Mayfield will be held on November 3rd at Ebenezer Methodist Church South of Olney.  Visitation at 10:00, Funeral Services at 11:00 with a meal provided following the service.

I will always carry great memories of Aunt Jeanne. She taught me so many things over the years and I still apply them to this day. When I was 14, she taught me how to make a delicious meal in 10 minutes with a pressure cooker.... at that age, I just couldn’t believe it. Uncle Carrel and Aunt Jeanne took me on some wonderful road trips in their motor home, seeing so many things along the way. She will be sorely missed. Love you Aunt Jeanne
