WILLAMARY (ROSEMARY) OPAL MOBERLY SMITH, AGE 92

Rosemary Smith, age 92 of Robinson, IL, died on March 3, 2018 at the Magnolia Rehabilitation Center, Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson, IL.  Rosemary was born May 22, 1925 in Bellflower, IL to George and Opal Moberly.  She grew up with her brothers, Bob and Don in the small town of Bellflower where her father was the rural mail carrier, part-time barber and part-time pastor.

Rosemary went to grade school and high school in Bellflower.  She graduated from the high school in 1943 with 22 in her graduating class.  Her favorite subjects were music and art.  Rosemary met her future husband, Richard Smith in high school when they were freshmen and started dating when they were juniors and attended their Junior Prom.

After graduating from high school, Rosemary worked at the Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL.  She worked in the intelligence department and commuted there in her 1937 Ford Model A. Coupe.  Her boyfriend, Richard Smith, had signed up as a cadet in the Army Air Corps at Chanute.  He later became a bombardier/navigator on B17 flying missions over France and Germany from England.  After the war, Rosemary and Richard married on October 4, 1945 at her parent’s home in Bellflower.

Rosemary was a loving and devoted wife and mother.  She was always thinking of others – what they needed and how they were doing.  She was very positive and proud of her faith.  Rosemary was very independent and loved her family and home.  She kept up with the world affairs with a conservative outlook.  Rosemary grew up during the Great Depression and learned to save and reuse everything, becoming very thrifty.  She was an avid collector and especially loved anything from the southwest and her favorite animals were German Shepherds and she especially loved being with the dogs.  Rosemary was very witty and at times, everyone had to be on their guard, but she was loved by all.

Rosemary and Richard were married for 66 years when Richard passed away in 2012.  She is survived by three children, Rhea Jan and Terry McCoy, Robinson, IL, Mark and Linda Smith, Chino Valley, AZ and Dane C. Smith Sr., Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren, Kimberly and Scott Johnson, Mahomet, IL, John and Lisa McCoy, Robinson, IL, Matthew and Andy Smith, Prescott, AZ, Dane Smith Jr and Cryssie, Phoenix, AZ and Ella Brightwell, Phoenix, AS; two great grandchildren, Andrew and Erica Johnson.

Saddened to see her go. She was a wonderful lady. She made my mom's stay at Magnolia tolerable and helped her make a new friend in Rosemary. Those two were a pair when together :)
I saw her a few days before she passed and could see she was ready to go. She had a long and full life, our family is honored to have been a part of it even if just for a short time.
My mother, Fumi Cox, will miss their talks.
