Robert L. “Bob” McCleave, 74, Newton, IL passed away Wednesday March 16, 2016 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.

Bob was born in Robinson, IL on December 8, 1941 and was the son of Henry Wesley McCleave and Mildred Deloris (Richardson) McCleave.

Bob worked most of his life as a bookkeeper. He worked at Webster Ford in Newton, IL for many years and finished his working career as a bookkeeper with Midwest Trucking in Indianapolis, IN retiring in 2006.

Bob attended Oblong schools and was a member of the Oblong High School Class of 1959. Following high school Bob attended Terre Haute Business College. He was a member of White Oak Church, rural Oblong, IL. Bob enjoyed the time that he spent with his friends and especially his family.

Bob is survived by a brother and sister-in-law William “Bill” and Catherine McCleave and a sister Judy McCleave all of Oblong, IL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Betty Miller.

A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday March 23, 2016 at the Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, IL with Pastor Alvin Neidigh officiating. It was Bob’s request that his body be cremated and his cremains buried in White Oak Cemetery near his parents. A casual gathering of friends and family will be held from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Wednesday March 23, 2016 at the funeral home.

The family requests that an expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Oblong Schools Academic Foundation with envelopes at or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home P.O. Box 121 Oblong, IL 62449.
