Mr. Ammon E. Raber, age 80, of Flat Rock, IL, died peacefully at 5:40 PM Monday February 22, 2016 in his home, surrounded by his family, following a lingering illness.

Born February 18, 1936 in Millersburg, OH, he was the son of Eli C. and Lovina (Wengerd) Raber.  On December 19, 1957 he married Ada (Yoder) and she survives.

Mr. Raber was retired and had served as deacon in the Amish Community since 1971.  He was a member of the Flat Rock Amish Congregation, Flat Rock, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ada Raber, Flat Rock, IL; sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon and Miriam Raber, Flat Rock, IL; Wayne and Ruth Raber, Cothranton, PA; David and Dorcas Raber, Flat Rock, IL; Paul and Leah Raber, Flat Rock, IL; Leroy and Joanna Raber, Millersburg, OH; daughters and son-in-law, Susie and Samuel Hochstetler, Worthington, IN; Mrs. Edna Slabaugh, Worthington, IN; brother, Christ E. Raber, New Bedford, OH; sister, Ms. Mattie E. Raber, Millersburg, OH; sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Raber, Charm, OH; forty-eight grandchildren; and thirty-eight great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Eli and Lovina Raber; brothers, Andy Raber and Noah Raber; sister-in-law, Mrs. Christ (Amanda) Raber and son-in-law, Jerry Slabaugh and five grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Friday February 26, 2016 at 9:00 AM at the home of David Raber, 10510 East 350th Avenue, Flat Rock, IL, with Bishop Nelson Garber officiating.  Burial will follow in the Amish Cemetery, Flat Rock, IL.  A time of visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday February 24, 2016 and again on Thursday February 25, 2016 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the home of David Raber, 10510 East 325th Avenue, Flat Rock, IL.

Sorry to hear of your loss, he is also a loss to many other people. I'll never forget his friendly personality and his generosity in sharing his family with me and others. He helps making the Kingdom of God more complete.
