Mr. Rondel “Gene” Vanarsdalen, age 79, of Annapolis, IL, died Monday September 14, 2015 at 12:20 AM EST, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital, Terre Haute, Indiana.  

Gene was born September 30, 1935 in Crawford County, IL, the son of Russell Morton and Angie Mae (Chapman) Vanarsdalen.  On September 21, 1955 he married Marcia (Melvin), and she survives.

Gene was employed in the Marathon Boiler House, Robinson Refinery, Robinson, IL for twenty-seven and a half years.  Also worked for Robinson Manufacturing (Ettlebrick Shoe Factory) Robinson, IL.  Attended Porterville Congregational Christian Church, Porterville, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Marcia (Melvin) Vanarsdalen, Annapolis, IL; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Chris Vanarsdalen, Annapolis, IL; daughter, Ms. Rhonda L. Vanarsdalen, Annapolis, IL; granddaughter, Kaitlyn Vanarsdalen, Annapolis, IL; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mrs. Doris L. and Bruce Staley, Martinsville, IL; G. Maxine Elliott and Alva Fleek Jr., Annapolis, IL; Mrs. Barbara J. and Bob Pleasant, Robinson, IL, along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Geraldine I. “Gurn” Vanarsdalen, January 13, 2015.

Funeral service will be Thursday September 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson, IL, with Bro. Billie Ray Ulrey and Bro. Scott Mendenhall officiating.  Visitation will be Wednesday September 16, 2015 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson, IL.  Burial will be in the Olive Branch Cemetery, Annapolis, IL.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hope Center, Regional Hospital, Terre Haute, IN, or Crawford County Humane Shelter, Robinson, IL, with envelopes available at the funeral home.

We are so sorry to hear about the loss of Gene. He was a great man, Rodger had the best time working with him mowing, Rodger will always treasure that time. If you need anything, please let us know.
