Juanita Jean Matheny, 92, of Oblong, Illinois passed away Friday March 14, 2014 at 7:42 a.m. at the Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong.

Born in Hardinville, Illinois on July 28, 1921, she was the daughter of Brody Ira Bollinger and Ella Theo (Keenan) Bollinger. On June 4, 1939 she married Arthur Nolan and he preceded her in death in 2004; she married Ira S. Matheny on July 22, 1978 and he preceded her in death on July 25, 1995.

Juanita was a member of the RHS Class of 1939; a member of the First Christian Church in Oblong and Highland Church of Christ in Robinson; worked as church secretary at LeClaire Christian Church in Edwardsville, Illinois; switchboard operator at Crawford Memorial Hospital; volunteered as one of the “Pink Ladies” at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson, Illinois; was employed at Terry’s Flower Shop and the Index Store, both in Oblong, Illinois; and did sewing in her home. Juanita enjoyed drawing, painting, singing and reading her Bible.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Arthur Keith and Mary Jane Nolan II and a daughter Rebecca “Becky” Stahl, all of Oblong, Illinois; three step-sons and daughters-in-law: DeWayne Matheny, Ft. Worth, Texas; Truman and Sharon Matheny, Hillsboro, Oregon. and Stanley and Beverly Matheny, Charlotte, North Carolina; eight grandchildren; Ed and Debbie Mikeworth III; Kelly and Gary McBride; Shelly and John Moore; Cynthia J. Haynes; Gina Booker; Tanna and John Tardif; Lee Ann and Bob Smith and Angela and Donnie Nichols; 16 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren and a very dear friend Etta McGuire.

Preceding her in death were her parents; both husbands; an infant son, Michael Edwin Nolan; a daughter, Rita Mikeworth; a great-grandson, Arthur Keith Nolan III and two brothers, Gerald “Jerry” and Lyle Bollinger.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, Illinois. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Bro. Dee Wolfe and Rev. Hiram Gonzalez officiating, burial to follow in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois.

So sorry to hear of Juanita's passing. Always enjoyed speaking and visiting with her during our visits to the nursing homes. She prepared my wedding bouquet way back in 1971! Condolences to the family.
