Mr. James W. Smith Sr., age 77, of Oblong, IL, died Tuesday November 16, 2010 at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson, IL. Born November 8, 1933 in Crawford County, IL, near Oblong, he was the son of Rev. Zay "Boosie" and Velma Elizabeth (Hardin) Smith. On April 19, 1952 he married Effie Marie (Duckworth) who passed away May 12, 2003. On September 27, 2005 he married Amelia (Mickey) and she survives. James retired from the military in 1975 after 22 years with the US Army; retired from Pillsbury as Logistic Manager in 1991; Corporate Events Planner at Indian Hills & Champions Run Golf Courses in Tennessee. He was a member of the Berlin Congregational Christian and Oblong Wesleyan Church; enjoyed golfing, Bass Fishing with the Pro Bass Fishing Association, Hunting and most of all enjoying time with his friends.

Other survivors include sons & daughters-in-law, Steve Smith, Lafayette, IN, James & Linda Smith, Nashville, TN, Larry & Pam Hubbard, Lebanon, TN, wiley Smith, Murfreesboro, TN, Vonnie & Kathy Smith, Portage, MI; daughters & sons-in-law, Angie & Jerry Pounds, Waitsburg, WA, Debra Jackson, Oblong, IL, Gayle & Anthony Robinson, Lebanon, TN, Penny Boothe, Lebanon, TN, Linda Clemmons, Tulsa, OK; brothers & sisters-in-law, Thomas L. Smith, LaPorte, IN, L. Eugene & Mary Smith, Oblong, IL, Clarence R. & Jennie Smith, Oblong, IL; sisters & brothers-in-law, Sandra Sue & Steve Garner, Washington, IN; thirty grandchildren, twenty four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents, wife Effie Marie, one son, Richard Allen Smith, one great granddaughter, a brother, Michael D. Smith, a sister, Joan Hartleroad, a sister-in-law, Henrietta Smith.

Visitation will be Friday November 19, 2010 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL. Funeral services will be Saturday November 20, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL, with visitation from 1:00 until time of service. Pastor Leonard Waller will be officiating and burial will follow in the Berlin Cemetery, rural Oblong, IL. Military rites will be performed at the graveside by the Oblong American Legion Post #219.
