Mary L. Gilman, age 95, of Springfield, Virginia, formerly of Oblong, Illinois, died Wednesday July 20, 2011 in Crystal Garden Assisted Living, Springfield, Virginia. Mary was born November 13, 1915 in Manila Philippines, the daughter of Christian Martin and Natividad Dela Rosa (Alejaeo) Tagesen. On october 29, 1946 she married Ralph Jesse Gilman and he preceded her in death October 13, 1982. Mary worked for the Ettlebrick Shoe Factory, Robinson, Illinois for 12 years; Tempco Products, Robinson, Illinois for 12 years and for many years she was a seamstress doing alterations; was a member of the Seed Chapel United Methodist Church, rural Oblong, Illinois. She moved to the Oblong area in 1946 and later moved into Oblong in 1984; taught Sunday School and was a song leader for many years; member of the United Methodist Women's Group. Mary moved from Oblong to Porter, Indiana in 2006 to live with her nephew and in September 2010, moved to Springfield, Virginia to live with her niece.

Survivors include sisters, Mercedes Delfino, Daly City, California, Helen Onrubia, Manassas, Virginia; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews as well as a daughter-in-law. Preceding her in death, her parents; husband, one son, Theodore Allen "Ted" Gilman and one nephew, Ralph Pinkston.

Memorial services will be Thursday July 28, 2011 at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois with Bro. Don Houdasheldt officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be in Berlin Cemetery, rural Oblong, Illinois. Visitation will be Thursday July 28, 2011 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois. Memorial donations may be made to the Oblong American Legion Post, #219 with envelopes available at the funeral home.
