Life Legacy

Mr. Leland Bowman, age 101, of Robinson, Illinois, formerly of the Annapolis, Illinois vicinity, died Saturday January 21, 2012 at Cotillion Ridge Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for the past six years.

Born June 19, 1910 in Prairie Township, Annapolis, Illinois, the son of Ira David Bowman and Mary Almeda (Bowen) Bowman. On October 18, 1937 he married Anna Mable (Duzan) and she passed away January 16, 1943. On October 22, 1946 he married Mildred (Goodwin) and she preceded him in death on November 17, 1989. Mr. Bowman was a retired lifelong Crawford County Farmer; early in his life, he worked for the Case Pottery before returning to farming. Mr. Bowman attended the Sundown Community Grade School. He was a member of the Crawford County Farm Bureau; was an accomplished, self taught, musician and favored the guitar, harmonica and accordion. Rumor has it that he also played a mean fiddle.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Ira Lee and Arlene Bowman, rural Robinson, Illinois; a granddaughter, Mrs. LeAnne Bowman-Harp, Robinson, Illinois; three great grandchildren, Braden Harp, a student at Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Illinois, Emily Harp, rural Robinson, Illinois, Aliana Harp, rural Robinson, Illinois; one nephew, Gary Lee Goodwin, Las Vegas, Nevada; two nieces, Roberta Cunningham, Effingham, Illinois and Doris Chapman, Oblong, Illinois.

Preceding Mr. Bowman in death were his parents; wives, Anna Mable and Mildred; half brother, Earl David Bowman and a nephew Olen Chapman.

Funeral services will be Wednesday January 25, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson, Illinois with Bro. Joe Griffith officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, rural Annapolis, Illinois. Memorial donations may be made to the Resident's Activity Fund, Cotillion Ridge Nursing Home, Robinson, Illinois, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
