Mrs. Emily Ellen Coleman, age 96, of Oblong, Illinois, died Saturday March 17, 2012 at Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois. Born February 22, 1915 in Merom, Indiana, the daughter of Rev. Levi James and Lydia Viola (Yeager) Carter. On August 16, 1938, she married Clarence M. Coleman and he preceded her in death on March 10, 1984. Emily was retired from E.R. Moore as a seamstress and Jakes Smorgasbord as a cook; was a member of the Bethany Christian Church, Rural Jasper County, Illinois; Graduate of Newton Community High School, Class of 1934; member Crawford County Senior Citizen's Choirs; Bethany Church Women's Fellowship; played piano at the church for many years; enjoyed bowling, loved to sew, crocheting, quilting, embroidering, gardening and caring for her in-laws for many years.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Levi and Verna May Coleman, Fallon, NV; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Coleman, Oblong, IL, Lydia and Mike Bailey, Willow Hill, IL; brother and sister-in-law, Estil and Bernadine Carter, Danville, IL; sister-in-law, Rhoda Simpson, Newton, IL; six grandchildren, Vickie Parks, Lynnwood, WA, Dorothy Coleman, Whisttmann, AZ, Rene Genelle Newton, IL, Kyle and Tawnya Bailey, Oblong, IL, Darcie Bailey, Burbank, CA, Kirk and Kenda Bailey, Oblong, IL; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence M. Coleman; three sisters, Zenovia Henry, Edythia Matheny and Iris Jean Vanetta; one brother James Vincent Carter.

Funeral services will be Thursday March 22, 2012 at 10:30 am at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL, with Bro. Ken Slisher officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday March 21, 2012 from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL. Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery, rural Jasper County, Illinois. Memorial donations may be made to the Bethany Christian Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
