Life Legacy

William G. "Bill" Brown, age 84, of Oblong, Illinois, died Thursday April 5, 2012 at Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois. Born May 22, 1927 in Casey, Illinois, the son of Robert W. and Louise (Button) Brown. On December 31, 1968 he married Brigitte Johanna (Lotz) and she survives. He was employed by Marathon Oil Company in the Engineering Department for 36 years before retiring in July 1986. Bill served in the U.S. Navy during WWII; was a graduate of the University of Illinois in Electrical Engineering; former member of the Robinson Elk's Lodge #1188' Oblong V.F.W. Post #10635; was a life long learner who loved inspiring, encouraging and supporting others; he enjoyed traveling; vegetable and flower gardening; radio controlled airplanes and boats; his swimming pool and working on the family farm near Casey, Illinois.

Survivors include his wife Brigitte Brown, Oblong, Illinois; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Robert Cox, Greenup, Illinois; Joan Ulrey, Plainfield, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Robert Brown and Troy T. York.

Funeral services will be Monday April 9, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois with Pastor Phil Boyd officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 am until time of services at 11:00 am at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois. Full military rites at the cemetery provided by Oblong American Legion Post #219. Burial will be in the Greenup Cemetery, Greenup, Illinois. Memorial donations may be made to the Oblong Children's Christian Home or Oblong Fire Department Christmas for Kids with envelopes available at the funeral home.
