Leslie "Les" Hicks, 82, Oblong, Illinois, passed away Sunday September 16, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Danville, Illinois.

Visitation is from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. Saturday and the funeral service is at 1:00 P.M. at the Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL. with Bro. Phil Boyd officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by Oblong American Legion Post #219. An expression of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to Oblong American Legion Post #219.

Les was born in Cullman, Alabama, on April 10, 1930 and was the son of Leon E. Hicks and Rosa (Hogue) Hicks. On January 14, 1980, he married Sandra Jo "Sandy" Shields.

Les was a power lineman for IBEW Local 485, out of South Carolina, traveling throughout the United States for 33 years, retiring in 1985. He served in the United States Air Force as an Airman 2nd Class during the Korean Conflict. Les was affiliated with Oblong Wesleyan Church; Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Department of American Veterans. He had previously lived in Tallahassee, FL. before moving to Robinson and Oblong area in 1978.

He is survived by his with Sandra Jo "Sandy" Hicks of Oblong, IL; three step children-James & Cheryl Harding of Decatur, IL. Susan & Jim Baud of Olney, IL. and Melissa Reed of Oblong, IL.; three grandchildren- Christy & Eric Drum of Stoy, IL, J.D. & Anne Baud of Stoy, IL. and Jessica & Seth Brooks of Eagan, MN; three great-grandchildren-Brandon Morris, Sydney Drum and Chad Drum all of stoy, IL; sister-in-law Linda Hicks of Dallas, GA, three cousins- J. W. Hicks and Joseph Hicks of Cullman, AL.; and three nephews - Mark Hicks of Dallas, Ga. and Gary and Danny Hicks both of Cullman, AL.

Les was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers -J.C., Robert Dale, Jerry Wayne, and infant twin brothers Bobby Jo and Billy Jo Hicks; nephew Jason Hicks and a son-inlaw - Jonathan Reed.
