Madonna Rose Kirts, age 74, of Robinson, Illinois, passed away on Monday (February 8, 2016) at Heritage Manner after a courageous battle with cancer.  She was the beloved wife of Larry Kirts of Robinson.

Madonna was born in Olney, Illinois on November 8, 1941, and grew up in Wendelin, Illinois.  She was the daughter of the late Dorothy and Lawrence Fehrenbacher.  She was grounded in deep faith, involved in many activities, and enjoyed golfing until her illness struck in 2013.   Besides her husband, Madonna leaves her daughter, Cindy Gruensfelder, her son-in-law, Donn Gruensfelder, and four beloved grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Hannah, and Sarah Gruensfelder, all of St. Louis, MO.  Madonna also leaves behind her cherished sister, Mary Jo McKinney of Olney, Illinois, as well as numerous brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Madonna was a wonderful and giving person who was deeply rooted in her faith and who loved spending time with her grandchildren.  For over thirty years she was the bookkeeper and buyer for Alblinger and Kirts Hardware in Oblong, IL.  She was also a phenomenal golfer, with her husband Larry, a member of Quail Creek Country Club and of Oak Glen Golf Course.  She was an avid reader, and incredible cook whose fruit pies were the favorites of many.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, February 11, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Pulliam Funeral Home in Robinson, Illinois.  The funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 12 at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Robinson, Illinois.  Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Wendelin, Illinois.  A luncheon will be held immediately following the burial in the Holy Cross Parish Hall in Wendelin, Illinois.

Memorial donations may be made to the Hope Lodge, 4215 Lindell Boulevard, St. Louis, Missouri 63108.

To Larry: We were so sorry to hear the sad news; Donna was such a very special friend and the Best golfer!! As a matter of fact, on our first Robinson golf outing after Scott paired us, Bill is reminded that she beat him! That was the beginning of many special golf outings with the Kirts; we cherish our Robinson trips and visits over pizza at Monical's. What a strong woman she has been throughout these three years and we are grateful for a chance to visit with you both when we were in St. Louis in November. Our love to you and the family and we wish God's blessings for comfort and healing. Fondly, Bill and Judy

Larry, I’m sorry to read of the passing of Donna. It was so many years ago when we used to get together with our family's for a card game. It’s a pleasant memory of the good old days when we were much younger and had our future ahead of us. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

All of us at the Sainte Marie Foundation send our deepest sympathy at your loss. I think of you often when I stay at the Foundation House, where you grew up, right next to the house that you and Donna built and lived in while you were in Sainte Marie.
