Shirley Gail Yager, 57, of Oblong, IL passed away 10:09 a.m. Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon, IL. surrounded by her family. Born in Olney, IL, on February 23, 1957, she was the daughter of George “Sonny” Yager and Ida Imogene (Gasso) Yager.

Shirley attended Oblong Schools; was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ste. Marie, IL.; was a CNA at several nursing homes in the area as well as in home care. She was an avid animal lover; enjoyed being outside, gardening and 4 wheeling. Shirley enjoyed being a kid with her grandkids.

Survivors include her father, George “Sonny” Yager, Willow Hill, IL; five daughters, Anna and Jamee Huber, Angie and Rodney Shook, all of Oblong, IL.; G. G. and Eric Smithenry, Newton, IL; Rikki Jo and Mike Jones and Savannah Pearl Yager, also of Oblong, IL.; one brother and sister-in-law Donnie and Dana Yager, Willow Hill, IL; two sisters and a brother-in-law Darlene and Kevin Dart, Oblong, IL and Gloria Kay Litzelman, Ste. Marie; 11 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and great nieces and great nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Ida Imogene Yager; grandparents, George O. and Margaret Yager and Jack and Winnie Gasso.

Celebration of Shirley’s Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, IL with Bro. Phil Boyd officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Yager Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Savannah Pearl Yager College Fund, C/O Peoples State Bank, Newton, IL with envelopes at the funeral home or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home, PO Box 121, Oblong, IL 62449.

So sorry for your loss girls! I will miss the talks your mom and I had ranting about everything in Sainte Marie and stewing over animals. Her heart was full of gold. She always told me I'm the only one in town that liked her (not true) and I was glad to be a friend to her!
