ROBERT A. “BOB” SMITLEY

Robert A. “Bob” Smitley, age 61, of Terre Haute, IN and formerly of Robinson, IL; passed away Saturday January 18, 2014 in Union Hospital, Terre Haute, IN, surrounded by his family.

Born August 8, 1952 in Paris, IL, Bob was the son of  Joseph “Joe” Smitley and Leota (Blankenbeker) Smitley. Bob was the owner of Mattress Liquidators in Terre Haute, IN and Robinson, IL; he was a member of The Covenant Church of Jesus Christ in Terre Haute, IN and  enjoyed spending time with his family and buying and selling cars.

Proceeding him in death was his father, Joseph “Joe” Smitley on December 14, 2012 and a grandson, Justin Rich.

Survivors include his wife, Rose (Foster) Smitley, whom he married August 29, 2010 after a 22 year engagement; his mother, Leota Smitley of Robinson, IL; three daughters; Felicia Foster of Robinson, IL., Stacey Taylor and her fiancée Seth Cavins of Terre Haute, IN and Hiawtha Taylor-Willis and her husband Trenton of Indianapolis, IN; two brothers; Steve Smitley and his wife Jeanie; Brent Smitley and his wife Diana, both of Robinson, IL; mother in-law and father in-law, Oscar M. Foster Sr. and Martha S. Foster of Terre Haute, IN; brothers in-law, Oscar Foster Jr. of Terre Haute, IN;  Randall Foster and his wife Meagan of Terre Haute, IN; Trianito Foster and his wife Belinda of Linton, IN; grandchildren, Blake Hale, Nick Hale, Jayden Wilkins, Johnavon Rich, Jeramiah Cavins, Ty Ray Herron, Tyrese Herron, Taliah Herron and a step granddaughter, Trenity Willis. Other survivors include nieces and nephews, Stephanie Strader and her husband Jon, Beth Nelson and her husband Jon, Angie Pfeifer and her husband Tom and Brian Smitley and his wife Crystal along with several other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Saturday January 25, 2014 at Noon (Indiana Time) at The Covenant Church of Jesus Christ, 1108 8th Ave, Terre Haute, IN 47804.   Visitation will be Friday January 24, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Indiana Time) at Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN 47804 with Pastor Clarence Debow officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery, Terre Haute, IN.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday January 26, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson, IL with Celebrant Dr. Tony Cork officiating.  Visitation will be Sunday January 26, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Pulliam Funeral Home in Robinson, IL.

Bob was a good friend and classmate of the RHS Class of 70. We had many great times together both in high school and during our later years. My thoughts are with the family at this time of loss. God Bless you all.

Leota and family: So sorry about the passing of Bob. Sure has been a hard last few years for all of us. Just know that we are thinking about all of you.

Rose and entire family, we are so sorry to hear of Bobs passing. Our hearts and prayers go out to all of you during this time. I always admired how much Bob loved all of you and his grand kids , as I know this will be so hard on them.
