Mr. Calvin C. “Cal” Giffin, age 88, of Robinson, Illinois, died Sunday May 19, 2013 at 09:13 am EST, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, IN, following recent surgeries and failing health.

Born July 15, 1924 in Dargan, Maryland, he was the son of Samuel Edward and Sarah Virginia Elizabeth (Huff) Giffin.  On April 24, 1970 he married Mary Frances (Ormiston) and she preceded him in death April 21, 2013.

He was a Retired Construction Superintendent managing construction projects from Florida to Minnesota,  Retired in 1986.  Locally, Mr. Giffin supervised many public building projects including the new Crawford County Jail; the Robinson Township Firehouse; the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); New Hebron Christian School addition; VFW Military and Historical Museum and many Habitat for Humanity houses in the area.

Mr. Giffin served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a Purple Heart Recipient.  His memberships include Hutsonville Baptist Church, Hutsonville, IL; the Free and Accepted Masons, Florida; E.M. Coulter Post #69, American Legion, Robinson, IL; Post #4549, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robinson, IL; B.P.O. Elks #1188, Robinson, IL; as well as many hours of volunteer service with Habitat for Humanity in Crawford County.

Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Norma Jean Sowers, Rock, WV; Mrs. Nancy Lee Sparks, Rock, WV; Mrs. Phyllis Ann Sparks, Lashmeet, WV; Ms. Connie Giffin, Daytona, FL; stepson, Craig Garrard, Hutsonville, IL; stepdaughters, Mary Kathryn “Kathy” Garrard, Robinson, IL; Ms. Cheryl Siegel, Robinson, IL; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Bass, Martinsburg, WV; twenty grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Wednesday May 22, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson, IL, with Rev. T. R. Akers officiating.  Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of services at 2:00 PM at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson, IL.  Burial will be in the Hutsonville Cemetery, Hutsonville, IL.

Military Graveside Rites will be accorded by E.M. Coulter Post #69, American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4549 and AMVETS Post #33.

Memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity with envelopes available at the funeral home.
