MR. HARLEY F. “SLIM” THOMPSON, AGE 66

Harley F. “Slim” Thompson, age 66, of West York, IL, died Monday May 13, 2013 at 12:43 pm at his residence in West York, IL.

Born July 11, 1946 in Robinson, IL, he was the son of Dr. Milo F. and Beatrice M. “Bea” (Pepple) Thompson.  In 1971 he married Sally S. (Shipley) and she preceded him in death on September 9, 2011

Slim was a Pastor, Apostle, Missionary and Evangelist.  In the early years Slim was the lead singer of Big River Band and played with many great country singers of the time.  He was Founder and Senior Pastor of Tree of Life, Hutsonville, IL; he accepted the Lord on April 10th, 1975 in a bathroom at 2 o’clock in the morning and after years of running Joshua (a half-way house), he became the Pastor of Tree of Life in Hutsonville, IL.  He continued traveling all over the US and Canada as an evangelist reaching tens of thousands and eventually went on to be a missionary in Africa, South America, Europe and others.  His goal was to reach one million souls for Jesus and I believe he did reach that goal years ago and those lives will reach even more.

Survivors include sons, Harley Thompson Jr; Brian and Tammy Thompson, Kentucky; Jason and Elaine Thompson, Wylie, TX; daughter, Summer and Derek Henderson, Owensville, IN; five grandchildren, Nick, Kyle, Michael, Cierra and Faith; brother Milo Lindsey Thompson and sister Susan and Alan Chandler, Henderson, NV.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be Saturday May 18, 2013 at 11:00 am at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson, IL.  Visitation will be Friday May 17, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home and from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday before the service at 11:00 am.  Burial will be in the Hutsonville Cemetery, Hutsonville, IL.

Memorial donations may be made to Souls for Jesus c/o Tree of Life Ministry, 107 South Main Street, Hutsonville, IL, 62433 with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Slim and Sally came into my life at a time I really needed them. They were kind loving souls that I remember with great fondness. It saddens my heart to hear of Slim's passing, but know that he is happy in the house of his lord. I knew his mother, Bea, way back in the day when she had her beauty salon in the Woodworth Hotel - what a sweet lady who loved her son. Bless you Harley Jr and Summer, I know you won't remember me, you were just small children when I was a guest of your parents at Joshua in Trimble, but your parents loved you with all of their hearts....you were the apples in their eyes.

Peace and light,
Suzie Davis

Pastor Slim was a man of God who taught the bible in it's entirety. Very well versed in the word. I was privileged to go on a missionary trip to Honduras with Pastor and other members of his church. Many wonderful works of God took place in the meetings. So very knowledgeable in the word. I send my prayers and thoughts to the family. As Slim is now resting in the arms of Jesus.

I met Pastor Slim less than a year ago. I have grown to love him as a man of God. His compassion toward me and my son was so genuine, that I could feel the Holy Spirit generate from him. My life will forever be blessed for knowing Pastor Slim. Thank you Jesus, for allowing the wind to blow part of the roof off the Church, so that our paths would cross.

Prayers and condolences to his family. As his cousin we've been out of touch for many years, he will be remembered as a kind man who enjoyed helping others. He and Auntie Bea performed many good works that have touched many lives that most people wouldn't have given a second glance.

I tried to call Slim today and found his phone disconnected. I had no idea of his passing. My heart is broken, he was a man that followed the Lord with great love and compassion. I am so thankful that I knew my brother and I will miss him so much. I will always be grateful to him for never giving up on me and believing in me. I know he is with Sally and at peace, thanks be to God who has given us the victory in Christ Jesus.

If anyone has Summer or Jason's phone number please call me at: 817-374-3317 Thank you, Jeri Lynn Murphy
