Roy Dean Jordan
Roy Dean Jordan, 77, Oblong, Illinois passed away at 9:38 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois.

Born in Crawford County, Illinois on January 13, 1936, he was the son of James William Jordan and Dolly (Bailiff) Jordan. He was self-employed as a carpenter and minister serving Bethany Church, Bible Chapel Church and Berlin Congregational Christian Church. He was a former member of the Berlin Congregational Christian Church, rural Oblong, Illinois and present member of the Oblong Wesleyan Church, Oblong, Illinois. He served on the Bend School Board in the mid to late 1960’s; 4-H Leader; served on the Oblong School Board in the late 70’s; numerous offices in church: Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader and Pastor for 25 years. Roy Dean enjoyed fishing and riding motorcycles for several years.

On June 1, 1956, Roy Dean married Ireta Henderson, who survives. Also surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Roger Dean & Pam Jordan, Oblong, Illinois; a daughter and son-in-law, Konita “Lynn” & Danny Shedelbower, Willow Hill, Illinois; three grandchildren, Eric & Kristen Jordan, South Elgin, Illinois, Ryan & Jessica Jordan, West Union, Illinois and Laci & Cody Pethtel, Oblong, Illinois and four great-grandchildren, Reese & Kaylen Jordan, West Union, Illinois, Colbi Pethtel, Oblong, Illinois and Hannah Jordan, South Elgin, Illinois and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Roy Dean was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Russell Daniel Jordan. A Celebration of Roy Dean’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, at the First Christian Church, 206 N. Range Street, Oblong, Illinois with Pastor Phil Boyd and Eric Jordan officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of service. It was Roy Dean’s wish to be cremated and cremation rites were accorded and burial will be at a later date.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Ridgeview Care Center Activity Fund with envelopes available at the church or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home, P.O. Box 121, Oblong, Illinois 62449.
