Donald R. “Rick” “Hardy” Houdasheldt Jr., 55, Oblong, Illinois passed away at 11:33 a.m.
Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson, Illinois following an
apparent heart attack.

Born in Olney, Illinois on February 3, 1958, he was the son of Donald Richard “Hardy” Houdasheldt Sr. and Rosetta “Rose” (Jacobs) Houdasheldt. Rick was a self employed contractor; co-owner of Henpeck Mercantile, Oblong, Illinois; former owner of Robinson
Century 21 Realty and Auctioneer; he also did drywalling for 21 years. Rick served two terms on the Oblong Village Board where he was instrumental in many decisions for the improvements in the Village of Oblong and was a present member of the First Baptist Church in Oblong, Illinois and Robinson Jaycees. He enjoyed playing golf; woodworking; gardening; was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and always followed sporting events that his girls participated in. Time with family and friends were an important part in Rick’s life.

On August 8, 1980, Rick married Diane M. Stone, who survives. Also surviving are his parents;
two daughters and a son-in-law, Bethany & D. J. Davis, Oblong, Illinois and Hanna Houdasheldt, Oblong, Illinois; a brother and sister-in-law, Dan & Dana Houdasheldt, Oblong,
Illinois; one uncle & aunt, Mark & Donna Jacobs, Oblong, Illinois, a cousin, Troy Jacobs,
Oblong, Illinois; a nephew, Josh Houdasheldt; a niece, Mandy Houdasheldt; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mark & Amy Stone, Robinson, Illinois, Susan & Tony Madlem, Oblong, Illinois, John & Michelle Stone, Newton, Illinois, Steve & Rosemary Stone, Chatham, Illinois, David & Gina Stone, St. Joe, Illinois, Michael & Cheryl Stone, Michigan, Julia & David Turner,
Bloomington, Illinois and Brenda & Heath Womack, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edna & Albert Jacobs and Vera & Lawrence
Houdasheldt; one cousin, Todd Jacobs and father-in-law, Edward Stone.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the First Christian Church, 206 North
Range Street, Oblong, Illinois with Bro. Phil Boyd and Bro. Joe Cunningham officiating. Burial
will follow in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois. Visitation is from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday at the First Christian Church, Oblong and 9:00 a.m. Thursday until time of service.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Lincolnland Hospice or
donor’s choice with envelopes at the church or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois 62449.

You are in my thoughts and prayers, such a great family. Knowing you all through the years has been a pleasure. May God help comfort though these rough times. Sorry I am out of town and can't be there.
