Betty Louise Graham Crossfield age 83, entered the haven of rest on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 12:15 p.m. at Crawford Memorial Hospital’s Long Term Care facility following many months of failing health as a result of a car accident in Bloomington, Indiana on April 16th, 2012.

She was born October 12, 1929 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Samuel Sanford Graham and Marie Kathren Jensen Graham. Betty attended and was a member of Grand Prairie Christian Church, Robinson, Ill. She was a retired caregiver for the elderly through National Home Care and later for ADDUS Healthcare, Mt. Carmel, Ill. taking care of the elderly in their homes and making many friendships. She worked at Heath Candy Company-Robinson, worked on an organic soybean and dairy farm, American Linen, Wood’s Café, and owned and operated Dino’s restaurant in Jerome, Idaho.

Betty married Maurice Alumbaugh Jr., November 28, 1948, and together they operated a dairy farm in Robinson, Ill. for over 20 years. She later married Arthur Crossfield, Hutsonville, on May 17, 1994.  Betty was a published poet and enjoyed reading, writing, crocheting, gardening, and traveling. She especially loved music, the arts, and cats. She helped Gerald Rains, a close friend and companion, with the Farmer’s Market in Hutsonville, Ill. for several years prior to the accident.

Betty is survived by her children Shawn M. Alumbaugh (Carol), Bloomington-Normal; Dawn K. Adams (Ron) Robinson; Carl J. Alumbaugh, Robinson; Diana M. Smith, Oblong;  Donna K. Norgard, (Greg), Jerome, Idaho; Debra E. Fulling, (Kyle), Robinson;  Maureen A. Hays, Robinson; Christopher J. Alumbaugh, Bloomington-Normal; and Jonathan M. Alumbaugh (Tammie), Naperville; her brothers Jack A. and Betty Graham, Spencer, IN; Thomas M. Graham, Nunez, GA; sister Dorothy A. and John Jeffers, Lebanon, MO; and sister-in-law and close friend, Pearl McGovern, Robinson.  23 grandchildren;  Michael, Christian, Aaron, Alex, Kirsten, Ian Alumbaugh, Lisa Kamarchik, Veronica Adams-Coulter, Chevauna Adams, Leslie Butler, Lora Wiseman, Robbie Smith, Melissa Gledhill, Michelle Rettkowski, Marsha Robertson, Stephanie Branigan, Valarie, Bradley Fulling, Catrina, Matthew Mundhenk, Audrey, Garrett,  Annie Hays, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 step great-grandchildren, and 4 on the way. Several nieces and nephews including Vickie Perkins, Rick Alumbaugh, Brenda Eakins, Kimberly Alumbaugh, James, Johnny, Bobby Graham, Terry Pelze, Kathy Burton, David, Mark, and Cathy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Maurice Alumbaugh Jr., son David Wayne, daughter Melissa Louise, brother Robert L. Graham, great-granddaughter, Megan Wiseman, her second husband, Arthur Crossfield, nephews Jason Stoltz and Nicolas Graham, brother-in-law and spouse, Gerald and Wilma Alumbaugh and her companion Gerald Rains.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson with Rev. John Fyffe officiating. Burial will be in Eaton cemetery, Robinson, Illinois. Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Grand Prairie Christian Church, Robinson Township Library, or Crawford County Humane Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.

I am very sorry about your loss. Your mother was a special woman. You're very lucky to have her in your life and I am very happy to have known her. She is in heaven now looking down on all of you. I am sure she was happy to have you in her life. GOD BLESS YOU ALL, PENNY VANWINKLE

Joe: I'm sorry to hear this about your Mother, May God give you peace and serenity and grant you the strength to endure the trials of this sad time. Let Him wrap His arms around you and remove the hurt and suffering you currently are experiencing. Trust in Him.
