Homer W. Chronic, age 89, died Monday November 1, 2010 at 11:45 PM at the United Methodist Village - Wesley Center, Lawrenceville, Illinois. He was born May 14, 1921 in Oblong, Illinois, the son of William and Marie Esther (Whetstone) Chronic. On August 17, 1946 he married Dorothy "Imogene" Patterson and she preceded her in death on April 1, 2005. Homer worked for the Pure Oil Company and later retired from Marathon Oil as a Roustabout from 1950 - 1971. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a Staff SGT, Link trainer instructor; was a member of the Crawford County Christian Center, Robinson, IL; Graduate of Oblong Township High School Class of 1940; Past Master of the Oblong Masonic Lodge 644 AF & AM and served on the church board and was an usher and Sunday school teacher.

Homer Chronic is survived by two grandchildren, Jason William Chronic, Robinson, Illinois; Jeri Lea Chronic, Champaign, Illinois; two great grandsons, Dillon Lawhead and Gavin Chronic; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Olivia Dennis, Springfield, Illinois and Loretta and Don Brough, Texas City, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Fred Jerome Chronic, April 9, 1996; two brothers, Stanley Chronic and Noel Henry Chronic.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday November 6, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, IL with Rev. Richard Houser officiating. There will be no visitation. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Illinois Oil Field Museum - envelopes at or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois. Masonic Service by Oblong Masonic Lodge 644 AF & AM at the Memorial Service. Full Military Rites will be conducted at the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois, by the Oblong American Legion Post #219.
