Life Legacy


George M. Tyhurst, age 84 of Findlay, Ohio, died at 1:12 PM Saturday, November 13, 2010 at Mease Dunedin Hospital in Dunedin, FL. He was born on August 23, 1926 in Crawford County, Illinois to the late Roy and Irma Tyhurst. On August 23, 1947 he married the love of his life, Kathleen and they have been married for 63 years. Also surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Paul Bramley of Findlay, OH; a sister, Enid Nadean Wilkin, Terre Haute, IN; He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Smith.

Goerge served in the United States Navy on the USS Lake Champlain Aircraft Carrier, where he was assigned to payroll dispersing. He graduated from Wabash Browns Business College in Terre Haute, IN. He retired in 1985, as an accounting supervisor at Marathon Oil Company. He was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, the Findlay American Legion, and a lifelong member of the Findlay Masons. He enjoyed boating, fishing, motorcycling, as well as playing golf (having made three holes in one).

Vacations were spent traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and overseas. After his retirement he enjoyed their winter home in Florida.

Visitaion was held on Sunday, November 21, 2010 from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, in Findlay, OH. Masonic services were conducted at 4:30 pm at the funeral home on Sunday. Funeral services were held at the funeral home at 1:00 pm on Monday with Pastor Terry Pontius will officiating. Burial in Maple Grove Cemetery in Findlay, OH. Full military honors were conducted at the cemetery by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. The family requested that memorials be given to either St. Marks United Methodist Church in Findlay or to the American Heart Association in his memory.
