Mr. John Walter "Walt" Hood, age 94, died Monday January 24, 2011 at OSF St. Joseph's Medical Center, Bloomington, Illinois, following several months of deteriorating health.

Born in Terre Haute, Indiana on February 26, 1916, he was the son of John and Elizabeth Amanda (Woerner) Hood. On August 9, 1936 he married Geneva Catherine (Fouty) Hood and she survives in Bloomington, Illinois.

Other survivors include two daughters, Beverly and Dan Doty, Maquon, Illinois, Linda and Rick Hite, Galena, Ohio; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Walter and Sarah Walkington, Gregory A. and Lisa Walkington, Leah G. Serrano and Susan E. and Andrew Argo; eight great-grandchildren, Ellen R. and John Hood Walkington, Colette P. and Luc B. Walkington, Hope G. and Ella M. Serrano, Catherine O. and Emma V. Argo.

Walt attended local grade schools, graduated Jasper Academy, Jasper Indiana, graduated Business college in Terre Haute, Indiana in 1935. In early 1946, he was employed at Marathon Oil Company. He worked in Marketing and Public Relations during his 31 year career. He served the company in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and New York City, retiring in 1977 at the age of 61.

He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Bloomington, Illinois; President of the Robinson Kiwanis Club in 1942, Master of Robinson Lodge no 250, AF & AM in 1943; member of the Crawford County Country Club, Robinson, Illinois; B.P.O. Elks Club, Robinson, Illinois and Findlay, Ohio; was a 32nd degree Mason in Danville, Illinois consistory, and member of Zorah Shrine Temple in Terre Haute, Indiana. Walt was a private pilot, loved surf-fishing and Houseboating on Lake Erie, was a gifted public speaker and had a great sense of humor.

Graveside Funeral Services will be Friday January 28, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Robinson New Cemetery, Robinson, Illinois, with Rev. Dan Doty officiating. Visitation will be at Pulliam Funeral Home, Robinson, Illinois on Friday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.

A memorial service for Mr. Hood will be held at Westminster Village, 2025 E. Lincoln Street in Bloomington, Illinois on Tuesday February 1, 2011 at 1:15 pm with the Rev. Keith Ferguson and Rev. Mel West officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomington, or the Westminster Village Foundation with envelopes available at the funeral home.
