Life Legacy


Howard Lee Newbold, age 74, Oblong, Illinois, died Saturday March 19, 2011 at his residence in Oblong, Illinois. He was born September 15, 1936 in Olney, Illinois, the son of John Lee and Madge Jeanette (Leggitt) Newbold. On June 22, 1958 he married Louise Sackrider and she survives. Howard was a life long farmer, Co-owner of Circle N Trailers, Oblong, Illinois, and with his son Cary, Co-owned C & H Equipment, Oblong, Illinois. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Oblong, Illinois for over 60 years; graduate of Oblong Township High School Class of 1954; former deacon at First Christian Church Oblong, Illinois; member of the American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association and Oblong Antique Engine and Tractor Club. Howard raced registered Quarter Horses and enjoyed collecting model farm tractors and antique tractors.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Newbold, Oblong, Illinois; sons and daughters-in-law, Cary Lee Newbold, Oblong, Illinois, Jon Wayne and Melissa Newbold, Long Oak, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Jana and Scott Ackman, Oblong, Illinois; four grandchildren, Jeremy Ryan and Lindsey Ackman, Oblong, Illinois, Brady Howard Newbold, Oblong, Illinois, Jenilee Louise and Chris Helm, Oblong, Illinois, Lukas Lee Newbold, Oblong, Illinois; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Charlotte Sackrider, Oblong, Illinois; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marie and Bob Miller, Crossville, Tennessee, Doris and Keith Tracy, Robinson, Illinois, Sharon and Terry Craig, Owensboro, Kentucky; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday March 23, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the First Christian Church, Oblong, Illinois with Bro. Dee Wolfe officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday March 22, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois, and then from 9:00 AM Wednesday morning until time of services at the church. Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois. Memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church, Oblong, Illinois, Lincolnland Hospice or Crawford County Meals on Wheels.

Cary, I am sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. I didn't find out in time to make the visitation or funeral. I had only met him a time or two, but Dad thought highly of Howard.
