Life Legacy


Laird B. Dart, age 66, of Oblong, Illinois, died Sunday March 27, 2011 at his residence in Oblong, Illinois. He was born March 23, 1945, the son of Harl Byrl and Mary Helen (Stewart) Dart. On September 23, 1967 he married Donna J. Wampler. He later remarried to Carolyn Diane French on June 6, 1997 and she survives. He was a self employed farmer and oil producer; owner and operator of Dogwood Creek Farm. Laird served in the National Guard; was a member of Scott Avenue Christian Church, Newton, Illinois; former member of the First Christian Church, Oblong, Illinois; graduated from Oblong Township High School, class of 1962; member of the Oblong Community Club and Oblong Antique Tractor and Engine Club. His hobbies included Bike Riding and Antique Tractors.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn, Oblong, Illinois; son, Lesley Brian Dart, Washington, DC; daughter and son-in-law, Melanie Kay Dart and Marcelo Armijos, Oblong, Illinois; a stepson, Jason and Becky Grabaugh, Newton, Illinois; a grandson, Edison, "Eddy" Loren Armijos, Oblong, Illinois; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Joan Dart, Terre Haute, Indiana, Barbara June and Charles Bluebaum, Vincennes, Indiana; three nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Loren Bren Dart.

Funeral service will be Thursday March 31, 2011 at the First Christian Church, Oblong, Illinois with Dan French and Mark Wilkinson officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday March 30, 2011 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the First Christian Church, Oblong, Illinois. Burial will be in the Wilkin Cemetery, Rural Oblong, Illinois. Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois in charge of arrangements.

The family request in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Oblong Children's Christian Home with envelopes available at the funeral home and the church.
