Richard Newbold, age 76, of Oblong, Illinois, died Thursday August 11, 2011 at his residence in Oblong, Illinois. He was born March 3, 1935 in Oblong, Illinois, the son of Clarence and Vesta (Correll) Newbold. On June 1, 1972 he married Beverly (Hawkins) Ruddell and she survives. In addition to being a boilermaker for several years he owned Park Mart in Robinson and Oblong, Illinois for several years and Marathon Tank Service, servicing the Oblong area farmers; served in Africa with the U.S. Army; member of the Dogwood Prairie U.M. Church; Graduate of Oblong High School, Class of 1953; past Scout Master and Scout Leader for several years; Sunday School Teacher for many years; served on the Crawford County Board for 10 years; he and his family enjoyed skating at the area roller skating rink for many years.

Survivors include his wife Beverly Newbold, Oblong, Illinois; son and daughter-in-law, R.D. & Kristy Newbold, Archdale, North Carolina; daughters and son-in-law, Cyndi and Brian Eubank, Willow Hill, Illinois, Iris Gibler, Evansville, Indiana; three step sons, Garry and Donna Ruddell, Perland, Texas, Terry and Vickie Ruddell, Oblong, Illinois, Randy and Debra Ruddell, Suwanee, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren, John Paul Newbold, Dasha Newbold, Michael Gibler, Todd Gibler, Sierra (Eubank) Forristall, Logan Eubank, Jason Ruddell, Brittney (Ruddell) Bennett, Laurin Ruddell, Lyndee Ruddell, Brent Ruddell, Brandon Ruddell, Brad Ruddell; two great-grandchildren, Emma Forristall and Krysta Ann Ruddell; sister-in-law, Nancy Newbold, Vandalia, Illinois; brother-in-law, Keith and Betty Jane Sheridan. Preceding him in death are his parents; step-father, Ray Ruddell, a brother, Harlan Newbold; a sister-in-law, Ramona Sheridan and a granddaughter, Chloe Ann Newbold.

Funeral service will be Monday August 15, 2011 at 10:30 am at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois with Rev. David Ducommon officiating. Visitation will be Sunday August 14, 2011 from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong. Burial will be in the Prairie Cemetery. Military rites conducted by the Oblong American Legion Post #219. Memorial donations may be made to the Oblong Boy Scout Troop #219, or the Dogwood Prairie United Methodist Church with envelopes available at the funeral home.
