Life Legacy


Mrs. Marian M. Stuckey, age 97 of Oblong, Illinois, died Sunday October 9, 2011 at the Hospice Care Unit, Arlington Memorial Hospital, Arlington, Texas. She was born April 27, 1914 in Gallington County, Illinois the daughter of Alvie and LuLu (Roberts) Quick. On May 22, 1937 she married Darrell M. Stuckey and he preceded her in death December 13, 1988. Mrs. Stuckey was a school teacher for 32 years starting out in one room schools, Liberty School and Smokey Row School; then with consolidation, going to Oblong Grade School, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, Oblong, Illinois; church secretary for 27 years from 1972 to 1999; taught Sunday School and was one of the first women to serve on the church trustee's committee; member of the United Methodist Village Auxiliary; Illinois Retired Teacher's Association; Oblong Business and Professional Women's Club; helped with the Oblong Food Pantry at the church; Tuesday Afternoon Card Club at the Oblong Community Center; Attended Eastern Illinois Teacher's College, Charleston, Illinois; Marian lived a long, healthy and active life; she will be remembered for her courageous spirit and her determination to remain independent and self sufficient.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Joe Housley, Arlington, Texas; several nieces and nephews; grand nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; six brothers, Claude, Aurel, Theodore, Kenneth, Carl and Harold Quick; two sisters, Wanda Lea Wilson and Thelma H. Stevens. Marion was the oldest and the last living of nine children.

Funeral services will be Saturday October 15, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Central United Methodist Church, Oblong, Illinois with Rev. Tom Brewer and Rondel Lee Boyd officiating. Visitation will be Friday October 14, 2011 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois. Memorials donations may be given to the Central United Methodist Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
