Biography

Dr. Robert J. "Bob" McCullough, 62, Naperville, Illinois and formerly of Oblong, Illinois passed away at 3:47 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at his residence.
Born in Austin, Texas on March 26, 1950, he was the son of John Robert "J. R." McCullough and Lela L. (Wiman) McCullough. He was a Veterinarian and Vice-President of Crete Oil Company. He was a graduate of Crete - Monee High School ~ Class of 1968 where he made 1st Team "All Chicago" in basketball. He earned a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Iowa University, May 1977 in Veterinary Medicine specializing in Equine but he also donated his time to the Humane Society and friends with small animals in need. He was listed in Who's Who in Veterinary Science and Medicine, Second Edition, 1991-1992. He developed new equine medications and products which some were used by the U. S. Equestrian Olympic Team in 1984. He was a big fan of the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Bears. He will be missed by his family, friends, colleagues, clients and especially his dog Petunia.
Survivors include a son, Austin D. McCullough, Naperville, Illinois; his mother, Lela McCullough, Sun City West, Arizona; a brother and sister-in-law, John A. & Lynda McCullough, Oblong, Illinois; a sister and brother-in-law, Gayle & John Fazzini, Frankfort,Illinois; three nephews, Jeff Meek, Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Douglas Meek, Albuquerque, New Mexico and James N. McCullough, Robinson, Illinois and a special friend, Jill Cotte. Preceding him in death were his father; a brother, James W. "Jimbo" McCullough; and former wife Catherine McCullough.
A public gathering to share memories and stories of Bob will be 10:30 - 11:30 A. M. Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois with Pastor Phil Boyd assisting followed by a private family graveside service. There will be no visitation. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Austin D. McCullough Education Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home or deposited at any of the First Financial Bank locations.

I remember Dr Bob from several years ago when he worked with the Crawford County Humane Society when they were first starting out. He was very gracious with his time and veterinarian knowledge and shared much information to the volunteers. He will be greatly missed.
