Life Legacy

Mr. LaVern Meese, age 78, of Oblong, Illinois, died Saturday July 21, 2012 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Illinois. Born June 5, 1934 in Crawford County, Illinois, he was the son of John Robert and Cora Elizabeth (Inboden) Meese. On May 16, 1958 he married Donna (Milam) and she preceded him in death March 15, 2012. He worked for the Triple "B" Oil Company for 1 year; Shivers Coop, Hutsonville, Illinois for 7 1/2 years; Barber Green - Dekalb, Illinois for 8 years; also worked construction for many years. LaVern served in the US Army as a Sergeant during the Berlin crisis. LaVern moved back to Oblong in 1974. He and Donna had previously lived in Waterman, Illinois; he was a substitute Sunday School Teacher and Ordained Deacon.

Survivors include son, Billie Don Meese, Hardinville, Illinois; daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Ed Higgins, Hardinville, Illinois; Pam and Jerry Merideth, Hardinville, Illinois; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Phyllis Meese, Oblong, Illinois; George and Penny Meese, Robinson, Illinois; sisters and brother-in-law, Marylan Flenner, Robinson, Illinois; Dorothy and Larry Ness, Robinson, Illinois; sister-in-law, Kathy Meese, Oblong, Illinois; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents; wife; two brothers, Ernest Ray and Gary Meese; a sister, Josephine "Josie" Rhoten; and daughter-in-law, Jean Meese.

Funeral service will be Friday July 27, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois with Bro. Joe Griffith officiating. There will be visitation at the funeral home from 10:00 am until time of services at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in the Hardinville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the LaVern Meese Memorial Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted by the Oblong American Legion Post #219.
