Life Legacy


Ron Westall, 79, Oblong, Illinois died Friday, December 14, 2012, at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois following a period of declining health.

Born November 7, 1933, in Lawrence County, Illinois he was the son of Vance & Edythe (Lynch) Westall.

Ron graduated from Bridgeport High School ~ Class of 1951, where he set the school track record for the mile. This record stood for over 50 years. Following high school Ron served in the U. S. Army Infantry for two years. His employment career included Mont Eagle Mills, Ralston Purina, and Country Companies Insurance before retiring in 1995. Ron was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, Oblong; former member of the Oblong American Legion Post #219; 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Crawford County Shrine Club. He was also a member of several other local community organizations over the years. He enjoyed Canadian hunting and fishing trips with good friends, working in the garden and spending time with his family and friends. Ron was a friendly fellow who always had a smile and never met a stranger.

In 1957 Ron married Arlene Kirk, who preceded him in death in 1965. In 1966, he married Bernadine "Skip" Kilburn Murphy, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug & Vicki Westall, Creve Coeur, Missouri and Richard Murphy & Julia Mittelstadt, St. Louis, Missouri; one daughter & son-in-law, Gwenda & Gary Lanter, Oblong, Illinois and five grandsons, Braden Lanter, Ryan Westall, Eric Westall, Andrew Westall and Patrick Westall.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Billie Eaton.

The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2012, at the Pulliam Funeral Home, Oblong, Illinois with Pastor Mick Laflin presiding. Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery. Visitation is from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2012, and Monday 8:00 a.m. until time of service. Masonic Service will be conducted Sunday, December 16, 2012, by the Oblong Masonic Lodge
AF & AM #644. Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Oblong American Legion Post #219.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis with envelopes at or may be mailed to the Pulliam Funeral Home, P.O. Box 121, Oblong, Illinois.

Skip and family, So sorry to hear of Ron's passing. He was a joy to work with and never missed an opportunity to tell me about his kids and grandkids. We are so thankful to have been blessed to know and love him too!

Ron was the half brother of my mother, Louise Westall Holder and my brief visits were as memorable as they were scarce; they are cherished. God rest your soul Uncle Ron. See you in Heaven.
